Carryduff ease to superb win

Carryduff ease to superb win

26 August 2015

THIS fiery encounter, which was switched to St John’s on Sunday after the Downpatrick pitch was water-logged, turned out to be something of a cruise for Carryduff.

The second half was played through a torrential downpour and and Kilclief played it with 12 men after Gavin Corrigan had dismissed three Kilclief players on straight red cards for striking offences.

Two early red cards to Kilclief players ended the game as a contest as Carryduff capitalised on the open space left in their wake.

Kilclief had started brighter with two converted frees in the first and fifth minutes, but following the initial two dismissals, Carryduff had two points from Sean McGonigle, one from Joe McFlynn and three from Conall Early.

Further points from McGonigle and McFlynn already had things looking very ominous for Kilclief and their woes were compounded with the issue of the third red card to one of their midfielders in the 19th minute.

Carryduff pressed the advantage with points from Early and McFlynn before Shane O’Neill finished a loose ball to the Kilclief net to give Carryduff a 1-10 to 0-3 advantage at the break.

With the game effectively settled, Carryduff produced some lazy, listless football in the second half as Kilclief struggled to cope.

Three points in the first five minutes from McFlynn, Barry O’Neill and Michael McGrath added to Kilclief’s woes before the game effectively died.

Carryduff had two further points from McFlynn and they ran out their bench over the closing stages.

Kilclief managed to convert three scores from frees as Carryduff’s tackling discipline slipped into disarray.
