Brian Steenson road rally was great success

SIR, — Last Sunday’s Brian Steenson Memorial Group car and motorcycle cavalcade in Crossgar was a big success.

The event was organised in conjunction with the Crossgar Community Association, with 160 cars, motorbikes and scooters taking part.

Dromara road racing legend, Ray McCullough, had both his QUB machines on display and chatted about knowing Brian Steenson and racing against him. Ray said that Brian was the best he ever raced against, describing him as a very skilled rider.

Graham Ritchie displayed photographs and memorabilia of Brian, while Trevor Lindsay brought along Steenson’s Aermacchi, the machine he rode in the 1968/1969 seasons.

The Ronnie Donnan Memorial Cup was awarded to Colin Allen from Comber for his 1952 BSA which was judged the most interesting motorcycle on display and the prize for the most interesting scooter went to Victor Currie from Kells County Antrim for his 1961 TV175 Lambretta.

Our group would like to thank everyone for their support,  especially The Corner Inn, Central Garages, the Scott family, Eurospar and particularly Roy Neill who did an excellent commentating job which was very much appreciated.

Yours etc,

ALAN LYONS,

Brian Steenson Memorial Group.
