Ballynahinch project is great boost for town

SIR, — I wholeheartedly welcome plans to invest £5m in the upgrade of the Ballynahinch sewage treatment plant.

The investment will significantly enhance the plant’s capacity which will allow for the future growth of the town.

As the MP for Strangford I have been strongly lobbying for this plant to be upgraded as it was not only struggling to cope with increasing demand but was holding back new development.

I previously discussed the much-needed upgrade with former Department of Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy who agreed that the plant required investment.

The £5m investment is something local people have been looking for and the Northern Ireland Water scheme will be warmly welcomed.

I believe that when the upgraded plant formally comes into operation it will be of major benefit to Ballynahinch and the surrounding area.

Yours etc.,

MR. JIM SHANNON MP,

Strangford.
