AN Ardglass teenager has been hospitalised in Spain after becoming seriously ill during a skiing trip with St. Patrick’s Grammar School.

The 15 year-old boy was with classmates and teachers in Andorra towards the end of the annual school trip when he became ill at the weekend.

He was transferred to Barcelona where he underwent surgery for a pre-existing medical condition, which had been unknown to his family.

The principal of St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Mr. Sean Sloan, said the boy remains in a stable condition in hospital where is being looked after by his parents who have flown to Barcelona to be at his bedside.

Mr. Sloan said he wished to acknowledge the support of staff and the tour company, which arranged the trip, for dealing with the difficult situation.

“The entire St. Patrick’s community is keeping both him and his family in our thoughts and prayers at this time,” he said.
