Anglers did not vandalise Loughinisland graveyard

SIR, — I refer to the front page article in your newspaper dated July 11 and on behalf of the Downpatrick and District Angling Association, sympathise with the Trainor family over the recent desecration of their gravestones.

As Lough owners and managers I would make it clear, however, that it is impossible the vandals responsible could have come by boat as your article suggests.

All boats on the Lough are registered and are secured after use by members and no other persons have access to boats on the Lough.

Members do not fish from the graveyard and anyone doing so is poaching illegally and should be reported to the DCAL bailiff or police.

Yours etc.,

EAMONN O’ROURKE,

Chairman,

Downpatrick and District Anglers.
