OVER 100 Saul supporters will travel to Killarney this weekend to cheer on local performers in the All-Ireland Scór final.

A local ballad group and storyteller from Saul GAC will compete for top titles in the annual cultural event at Killarney INEC.

This is the first time the ballad group, which includes Gareth and Angela McGreevy, Katelyn Denvir, Catherine McGrath and Grainne Laverty, have reached the competition final since the group was formed 15 years ago.

Qualifying for the final was a double coup for Gareth who will also compete in the recitation category.

Gareth said that although they have previously won county titles, to qualify for the All Ireland was a massive boost.

He said their qualification through the Ulster Scór was particularly welcome as it was held for the first time at St Patrick’s Grammar School, which is his former school.

“We have been practising hard but we are trying to keep the same formula going,” he said.

“We have worked hard and this is the culmination of a number of years work.

“It will all be down to one judge on the day and personal taste will come into it. It will just be how it goes on the day.

“We are nervous but it is a good nervous energy.”
