Alexander raring to go as new season approaches

17 March 2021

YOUNG Dromara hotshot Alexander Rowan is getting geared for the 2021 motorbike season.

Thirteen year-old Alexander will again be competing in the Honda British Talent Cup — a support class that runs alongside the British Superbike Championship.

It’s a championship for 12-17 year-old riders all racing on identical 250cc Honda Moto3 machines and will be contested over nine weekends and 18 races.

Alexander decided to compete in 2020 at the last minute after breaking his leg in February.

He only just recovered in time for the opening round in August. The championship was shortened to five rounds due to Covid restrictions.

Alexander made a good account of himself and the bike time and track knowledge accumulated in 2020 will be a very good foundation to build on.

Alexander received a tremendous boost by recently joining the Victoria House/Mortimer Racing Team.

They are a very experienced team with proven pedigree at running Honda Moto 3s and participating in the British Talent Cup.

To be surrounded with this experience and knowledge will undoubtedly be very good for the season ahead and for Alexander’s longer-term development.

Pre-season training is all off the bike as Covid restrictions mean all tracks are currently closed. However, Alexander has been working hard on his strength and endurance training by lifting weights, running, cycling and hiking.

A typical Saturday night would be spent watching the re-runs of his 2020 races on YouTube to try and learn and improve for the season ahead.

“I am very happy and excited to be competing in the Honda British Talent Cup again this season,” Alexander said.

“I hope to be able to improve on my results of last year and learn the new tracks. It is even more exciting knowing that we will have the benefit of Mortimer Racing to guide us on bike preparations and set-up.

“They will also be coaching me as a rider ,which will be a huge help to me as I enter my first full season on a big bike.”

Alexander paid tribute to his sponsors, who have agreed to support him once again in 2021.”Without their support it would be impossible to compete in the championship,” he remarked.
