DRUMANESS eased to a 110-run victory away to Larne on Sunday.

The visitors won and chose to bat at Sandy Bay and were soon in trouble as Neil Gelston got a leading edge to mid wicket from the bowling of J. Campbell for 1. 

James Cunningham was to follow with the score on 26 as he was bowled by McKinley for 12. This brought Neil Walsh and Gary Walsh to the wicket and the two batted freely punishing any loose deliveries. 

Runs were flowing and the pair had 82 for the third wicket when disaster struck, Gary Walsh run out at the bowler’s end attempting a second run ending his innings of 41. Darren Oldroyd soon followed stumped for 0. Neil Walsh passed 50, but wickets were falling around him. Martin Gartland was caught at mid on for 7 and Gary Moore was caught at cover for 2.

David Walsh followed in the same manner as Moore for 0. Walsh was left to add runs singlehandedly and Drumaness were 158 for 7 when Richard Tuohy was bowled for 1. Robbie Noade was caught at square leg and Anthony Walsh bowled for 0 as Drumaness posted 164. Walsh ended with an excellent 84 not out.

In reply, Larne were never in with a chance and Gartland and Cunningham opened the bowling. Cunningham bowled 7 overs for 7 runs, but it was Gartland who did the damage. He had Keenan caught at gully by Oldroyd with the score on 2 and C. Dempsey followed in identical fashion two balls later. 

Next to fall was Kennedy as Gartland had him caught at mid on by Robbie Noade and Stanton was caught by a brilliant effort from Gary Moore at cover off Gartland.

Gartland’s fifth wicket came when he had T. Dempsey caught down the leg side by Gelston. Larne were now 23 for 5 from 16 overs. Neil Walsh then entered the attack and his excellent day was to continue as he took three wickets in his first over. 

N. Campbell was bowled with Walsh’s first delivery. Lough was caught by Anthony Walsh two balls later and Wilson adjudged LBW two balls later.

Gary Walsh replaced Gartland, who finished with superb figures of 5 for 18 from 10 overs, and Walsh was to take the wicket of McKinley for 6. Neil Walsh ended the match with a caught and bowled off Mitchell as Larne were bowled out for 54 as Drumaness won by 110 runs. 

Neil Walsh ended with 4 for 4. Drumaness have won three games now in the league from five matches played.

Drumaness have a home tie this Saturday in the second round of the Junior Cup against Dunmurry.
