Tullymurry is host to major championship

THE recent annual Pony Club Home Championships 2014 were kindly hosted by East Down Branch at Tullymurry Equestrian Centre, Downpatrick.

Thanks are extended to Marion Turley and family for all the support and organisation required for such a major event and the East Down Branch of the Pony Club would like to thank all the sponsors who supported the competition: Finnebrogue Farm, Get Noticed Signs, Sporting Images, Kingsfield Haylage, Down Equestrian, Baileys Feeds, Likit, Aga Centric, East Down Foxhounds, Eric Pele Equestrian, Down Vets, Fox’s Equine Laundry and Autogrid Temple. Wynn’s Catering, Vanilla Black Coffee and the Corporate Crepe Co., were also in attendance on the day.

Over 200 young competitors took part on the day from all over Northern Ireland. Although the weather was not ideal, the competition ran smoothly and the club are indebted to David O’Connor and his team for designing a fabulous cross country course and to Eric Pele and Richard Truesdale for ensuring that the show jumping rings proved to be just challenging enough. With prompt prizegiving as a result of an efficient scoring team, competitors were able to head for home tired and wet, but having enjoyed a great day of competing with some young members having experienced their first ever one day event.

For such an event, a large number of volunteers are required to assist with planning, set up stewarding and judging, to name but a few, and East Down Branch District Commissioners Donna Quail and Alison Bissenden would like to extend their thanks to all members, family and friends who helped in any way to ensure the day was a success.

A special thank you to St. John’s Ambulance for attending on the day and to the vets on site, Rachel and Greg Dunlop. Vets on call were Down Vets.
