SEAFORDE and District Community Association held its annual meeting last week with members delighted funding to refurbish the YFC hall in the village has been secured.

The group’s chairman, John Knipe, gave a short report on recent activities after the minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and approved.

During the meeting, a cheque was presented to YFC hall trustee Helen Newell. The money was raised  by the dance class and will be used to purchase new window blinds for the premises.

Mrs Alice Forde delivered the financial report before Mrs Heather Holland from the County Down Rural Community Network conducted the election of the new committee. Those elected include John Knipe, Ben Parr, Alice Forde, Margaret McDowell-Wilcox, Lucy Browne, Gerry McManus and Steven McKelvey were re-elected.

Ms Nuala McIlroy gave a short talk on the work of the MARA project which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in rural areas by helping them access local services, grants and benefits.

Mr Stephen Hunter from Bryson Energy gave a presentation on the formation of an oil buying club in the Clough and Seaforde area which is free for people to join and promises to purchase heating oil for members at the keenest price available locally.

Further details of the club can be obtained from any member of the village committee or by telephoning 0800 1422 867.

After supper, the evening concluded with a slide show featuring a selection of photographs taken in the Seaforde area from days gone by.

Much fun was had discussing the images, deciding who the people actually were and seeing places as they were over 100 years ago and how they look today.
