THE South Eastern Trust has joined forces with Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare to supply and maintain a new range of beds and mattresses at its hospitals, including the Downe in Downpatrick.

Drive DeVilbiss will supply 891 Innov8 iQ beds which have been designed around optimising tissue viability, infection control and health and safety in terms of manual handling and falls prevention.

The new beds feature iQ Contouring where the backrest and knee break operate in harmony to reduce shear and friction, playing an important part in the prevention of pressure ulcers.

Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare is also supplying and maintaining almost 700 support surfaces, primarily the Hybrid-Air mattress, the Artemis dynamic therapy system and the Eclipse dynamic overlay mattress.

The Hybrid-Air is a non-powered mattress, using a clever combination of foam and air cells which operate on the principle of air displacement.

The Artemis is a fully automatic dynamic mattress with a range of high end functions to support acute care needs. Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare will also supply and maintain a number of Innov8 Low beds with mattress platforms descending to an exceptionally low level optimising falls prevention.

Seamus McGoran, the Trust’s director of hospital services, has welcomed the addition of the new beds.

“Our patients and staff are very impressed with the new beds and I am delighted with our suppliers, Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare who worked very closely with staff to ensure a seamless transition,” he added.

Brendan Devlin, general manager Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ireland, said the company is delighted to be supplying a range of its flagship products to the health trust.
