SPECTATORS flocked to Saintfield Horse Show on Saturday which was held in bright sunshine at Tyrella House.

All rings and arenas were kept very busy throughout the day with entries well up on previous years, especially in the pony section headed by Leo Curry.

A large crowd of spectators watched Yvette Truesdale’s dressage demonstration to music. The Lagan Construction Supreme Hunter Championship was won by Alison Crozier on Dragons Den with Gwen Scott on Morrows Templemore picking up reserve.

The Downpatrick Racecourse Race Horse to Riding Horse was very hotly contested and was won by Philippa Baird on Amstecos, a pairing which was placed second in Dublin the previous week. Irish Grand National winner Ann Ferris judged the class along with Denis McAuley, the leading thoroughbred breeder.

The Ulster Tatler Ladies Side Saddle Class was won by Sharon Magimpsey on Chilly.

The showjumping arenas were both kept busy especially with the new classes introduced this year for Northern Ireland riding clubs, amateurs and a special class for ladies.

David McClurg designed an excellent course for the working hunters which was well appreciated and kept Johnny Steele on his toes until very late in the afternoon.

Show Director Joan Cunningham said she was overwhelmed by the support for the show.

“I want to thank everyone who helped in any way, judges, stewards, sponsors, media commentators, heads of various sections and safety officers,” she said.
