Keely takes world dance title

A YOUNG newcomer has taken the dancing world by storm, scooping a world championship title.

Downpatrick’s Keely O’Neill has many reasons to celebrate her 10th birthday this week after being named winner of the World Line Dancing Championships.

She travelled to Blackpool for the championship event, wooing judges with her timekeeping and style on the dance floor.

Keely, who is a pupil of Our Lady and St. Patrick’s Primary School, only began dancing last year.

She joined the Dance Den school at that time and quickly showed a flair for various dance styles, from hip hop to line dancing.

Her mum Kelly said she was delighted to receive both a trophy and a medal at the world event, although she admitted she was pleasantly surprised Keely had made such an impact so soon after taking up the hobby.

“Although she has always enjoyed dancing, she only ever danced round the house until joining Dance Den,” she said.

“She turned 10 this week so it is a great present for her.”
