Event to look back on bygone era

KILMORE Presbyterian Church Hall is the venue for a special event this Saturday.
The Yesteryear of Jacksons and Others event takes place between 9am and 6pm at Drumaghlis Road, with all voluntary donations going to the church’s building fund.
Organised by Armour Jackson, who has previously hosted similar events in the area, Saturday will focus on a display of newspaper cuttings and private letters, invoices and photographs dating back to 1885.
There will also be a display of artefacts, tools and equipment dating back to the 1900s. A few vintage cars and tractors will also be on show, with refreshments available.
Armour explained Saturday’s event provides a unique glimpse of yesteryear, with postcards on display depicting the Saintfield, Crossgar and Ballygowan areas in the 1900s.
“We will also have a selection of newspaper cuttings from local papers which were collected by father W. F. Jackson which date back as far as 1887 and make very interesting reading,” he continued.
“There will be old photographs, glass bottles and stoneware jars dating back to the 1920s and I think people will be interested to see these as well.”
Armour said members of the Downe Old Car Club will be parking a range of vintage vehicles outside the church hall in Drumaghlis this Saturday.
He added: “There will be vehicles covering a period from around 1936 up to the mid-1950s and we also hope to have a few vintage tractors as well.”
