Charity to benefit at golf event

18 October 2017

A CHARITY golf tournament in Downpatrick this Friday will be raising money for Cancer Focus NI.

The event is being organised by St Patrick’s Golf Club captain Denis Tumelty to raise vital funds for a charity which provides care and support services for cancer patients and their families.

With most of Cancer Focus NI’s work funded through donations and fundraising, Denis is keen to raise as much as he can for the organisation and is particularly keen to support a Northern Ireland-based charity.

Cancer Focus NI works to reduce the impact of cancer on people’s lives with Friday’s event beginning at 12.30pm with a so-called shotgun start, with the golf club captain encouraging as many people as possible to take part.

He said the emphasis is on having fun and raising lots of money for a charity which does so much good work in the community. Denis is also delighted the Ballymote Community Project has agreed to be the main sponsor of the charity golf day.

The entry fee for members of St Patrick’s Golf Club is £7, with a £13 charge for non-members, with competitors treated to a cup of tea or coffee and a bacon roll when they have completed their round.

“There is not a family in the area which has not been touched by cancer which is why I have chosen to support Cancer Focus NI,” explained Denis. “Many people are battling the disease and sadly there are others who have lost loved ones to it. Cancer Focus works quietly behind the scenes providing vital help and support to families at a particularly difficult and challenging time in their lives.”

Denis hopes people will come out and support what promises to be a fun day this Friday in the name of a really excellent cause and has thanked local businesses who have agreed to sponsor holes.

Others interested in doing so are asked to get in touch with him on 07814 390114, while entries for Friday’s fundraiser can be booked by contacting the Pro Shop at St Patrick’s Golf Club, telephone (028) 4461 5167 or the office on (028) 4461 5947.
