Castlewellan food firm wins a major order with Iceland

CASTLEWELLAN firm TS Foods has signed a lucrative £300,000 deal with frozen and chilled food giant Iceland.

The new contract sees two of TS Foods Tony’s Chippy branded frozen products – pork sausages in batter and beef burgers in batter — being listed in over 100 Iceland stores across Scotland and Northern Ireland. 

Tony’s Chippy products are already listed in a number of retailers in Northern Ireland and Scotland including Tesco, Spar and Sainsbury’s. 

Joanne Molloy, the Castlewellan firm’s commercial director, said the company has been making products that enable Northern Ireland customers to enjoy that authentic chip-shop taste straight from the oven for over 35 years and have also been listed in Asda in Scotland since 2009. 

“With this Iceland deal, we are delighted to be able to widen our reach to help further satisfy demand both here and across the water,” she added.

Iceland product buyer, Mark Pearson, said the company has always taken great pride in the foods that it sells.

“Whether it’s chilled or frozen food, we only work with trusted suppliers that are just as dedicated to providing high quality, great tasting food at affordable prices as we are,” he explained.

Mark added: “TS Foods certainly embody the type of producers we like to work with and we are delighted to be able to help further showcase the Tony’s Chippy brand in Scotland and Northern Ireland.”

The Castlewellan firm has also been shortlisted for this year’s Aer Lingus Viscount Awards.

The business is one of three companies shortlisted in the Best SME category, which recognises organisations deemed to have excelled in all aspects of their business during in the last year. 

The awards, which are run in association with Ulster Business, celebrate the very best in the private business sector in Northern Ireland and are judged by a panel of esteemed business figures.

TS Foods was formed in 1978 by husband and wife team Tony and Ann Steele to produce a range of convenience foods including brands such as Tony’s Chippy Pastie, The Stuffing Company and TS Foods Stuffings.

Commercial Director Joanne Molloy said: “We are delighted that TS Foods have been shortlisted for these very special awards, which celebrate the best of Northern Ireland business. The winners will be announced in the IoD, Pall Mall, London on May 24.
