Anniversary on the Ards

Anniversary on the Ards

30 July 2014

BALLYGALGET GAC celebrated 75 years with a week-long programme of events.

During the day the children attended the annual Cul Camp, the biggest in Ballygalget’s history with 94 children in attendance.

After the Cul Camp the children took part in a range of arts, crafts and baking activities all centred round the theme of 75 years of club life. The children enjoyed helping to paint a club mural on one of the club walls.

Each evening there was a variety of matches, the highlights of which included parent versus children games and the Ulster champions of 1998 and 2005 taking on the club’s current senior hurling team.

The party continued late each evening with bingo, a night at the races and music provided by local musicians and groups.

The celebrations concluded with a commemorative open air mass on the pitch, which was attended by all past and present members.

After this everyone gathered on the pitch in the shape of a 75 and eagerly awaited the fly-over of a helicopter to take an aerial photograph.

Ballygalget GAC would like to thank everyone who attended the celebrations throughout the week and all those who helped out in any way to make this a major success.

The club looks forward to the launch of its history book and other 75th anniversary events later in the year.
