McStravick on injury list
DOWNPATRICK FC are struggling with a crippling injury list at the minute and that list has now got bigger after Jim McStravick joined the walking wounded with a groin injury. Things get even worse for Downpatrick this weekend when they travel to Ballywalter Rec in the Border Cup as they will also be without the Telford brothers, Andrew and Peter and Ian Kearney who are heading away for Andrew’s stag weekend. Meanwhile, congratulations to the club’s ladies’ team which beat Banbridge 5-2 to win the Frudles Division 1 Cup at the Junior Stadium last Friday night. Donna Marie Carson won the player of the match award after scoring yet another hat-trick.

Kilmore bus for Celtic

KILMORE Rec are taking a supporters’ bus to next Tuesday night’s County Antrim Shield game against Carling Premier ship side Donegal Celtic in West Belfast. Kilmore qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition after winning last season’s Steel and Sons Cup. Unfortunately, Kilmore lost their grip on the cup when they were beaten 5-1 by Wellington Rec in Larne on Saturday. The bus will be leaving The Square at 6.15 and will cost £5 for adults, £3 for OAPs and U-17s. Admission to the ground is £7 for adults and £5 for OAPs and kids.
YC night of nostalgia
KILLYLEAGH YC are hosting a Night of Nostalgia in their clubrooms at The Showgrounds on Friday, September 10, at 7.30pm, to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Anyone with old photographs or memorabilia should contact any committee member.
O’Donnell steps down
GERALD O’Donnell has stepped down as manager of Drumaness Mills after a disastrous start to the new season. O’Donnell handed in his resignation after last Wednesday’s 5-0 away defeat by Nortel. It is expected that the Mills will appoint a replacement within the next few days.
Galbraith out injured
DOWNPATRICK’S Stephen Galbraith, who is now plying his trade with Dromara Village, is in plaster after picking up a bad ankle ligament injury playing against Albert Foundry last week. The young striker, who was finding the net on a regular basis at Bells Bridge, is likely to be out for several weeks.
McGarry returns to the fold
AARON McGarry has returned to Ballyvange after a short spell with Drumaness Mills. His return couldn’t have come at a better time for manager Johnny Holland as he has lost the services of Daniel Craig, who is out of action with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, the club would like to thank Collins’ Off Licence in Downpatrick for sponsoring Saturday’s match against Rossglass County.
