Women’s Institute members enjoy visit to Forde estate

26 June 2019

TWENTY-SIX members and friends of Seaforde Women’s Institute went to the Forde estate in Seaforde for an evening outing recently.

Mathew Forde and his mother, Lady Anthea, took the ladies on a tour around the gardens, explaining some of the plants and trees growing there, their history and provenance. These included a tree which Mathew’s great-grandfather had brought back from the Crimean War, two old yew trees, a handkerchief tree and two large Californian Redwoods.

After a photo call they headed into the Garden House Café for a delicious fork supper and lots of chat.

After the president, Jenny, thanked everyone for coming, especially the visitors, and a short bit of business, Mathew enthralled the ladies with the history of the demesne and the village of Seaforde.

Lorraine Bothwell gave a vote of thanks to Mathew and also to the ladies who provided the supper.
