Toppers at Quoile Yacht Club

3 September 2025

SIXTY young sailors from all over Ireland converged on Quoile Yacht Club for the Unite Energy-sponsored Topper Northern Championships.

There were 45 competitors in the full rig category, while a further 15 sailed in the smaller 4.2 fleet.

In testing conditions, race officer Scott Rodgers and his team fitted in four races over the two days.

Their task was not helped by the over-eagerness of a sizeable number of the young racers, which resulted in several restarts and the introduction of the black flag rule.

There was plenty of local success in the 4.2 fleet with overall victory going to Max Boyd, from the host club, who accumulated one win and three second places.

Daniel Long, from East Down Yacht Club was third overall with one win, a fifth and a sixth to count after his discard.

Adam Green, from Lough Erne Yacht Club in Fermanagh, dominated the full rig class with three wins and a second place to take the overall title.

Jacob Browne, from Royal St George Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire, was second overall with counting scores of a second and two fourths, and another Southern visitor, Max Denny, from Skerries, was third overall with a second and two fourths to count.

At the presentation ceremony on Sunday afternoon event organiser Harry Crosby thanked everyone who had made the weekend a success, in particular the sponsors, the race team and the many volunteers both on and off the water.
