Tom shares his love for all styles of photography

TOM O’Hare, from Ballykilbeg, near Downpatrick, has been taking photographs for half a century and is as enthusiastic as ever.

His first camera was a Nikormat, which he got in 1970, and he learned how to use it by becoming a member of the now defunct Portaferry Camera Club. He learned quickly and was soon entering — and winning — competitions.

He’s taken thousands of photos down the years, many of them on holiday to Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland and further afield.

“Switzerland was the nicest of the lot,” he says. “The scenery was absolutely wonderful and luckily the weather was fantastic. Mind you, the Italian Dolomites are also stunning.”

Also a past member of camera clubs in Downpatrick and Strangford, Tom is now a member of Ballynahinch Camera Club. He made the transition from film to digital with ease and enjoys working with Adobe Photoshop.

His favourite subjects? “I enjoy sport and landscapes and sunrises and sunsets where light is involved, but basically I will photograph anything.”
