Todd re-elected as Saintfield association chairman

19 June 2019

SAINTFIELD Development Association has re-elected Mr Martyn Todd as its chairman.

Mr Todd, who stepped aside from the role to contest a seat in the Rowallane area during the recent council elections — was reappointed to the top role at the group’s annual meeting.

Last week, Mr Todd was one of a number of community representatives from across the district who attended a special Newry, Mourne and Down Council awards ceremony in Newcastle.

He was representing the Development Association at the event alongside Ian and Norma Mack, Paul McGeown, Peter Gregg, Lily Henderson and John Branch.

Awards were presented by well known media personality Pamela Ballantine with the Saintfield group receiving a special award in recognition of its volunteers “going the extra mile” in relation to its 10-year campaign to deliver a community centre in the town which will be officially opened next week.

The new centre was the venue for the Development Association’s recent annual meeting with the local council’s vice-chairman, Terry Andrews, praising the organisation’s work.

He also said that it was fitting that the group was holding the event in the new Belfast Road centre and commended the work of the Development Association on behalf of the community.

Mr Todd’s deputy over the next year will be Janice McHenry with the other office-bearers including Barbara Graham (Infrastructure Committee), David Greer (Events Committee), Lawrence Murphy (Green Committee) with Brian Gamble again heading up the Communications Committee. Kevin Young was elected to chair the Funding and Finance Committee. New member Jen Smith is taking on the secretary’s role.
