Thanks after barbecue success

SIR, — The weather forecast for Sunday, August 20, wasn’t too encouraging. Hurricane Gert was rolling across the Atlantic and heavy rain and strong winds were expected on the Sunday.

Fortunately, the hurricane changed direction and County Down was pleasantly dry and occasionally sunny.

The annual Cahill charity barbecue was held that day. The bunting was up, the marquees in place and the barbecues were prepared for cooking a variety of Ardglass fish and tasty burgers.

The chosen charities this year were Addiction NI, a charity based in Elmwood Avenue Belfast and AWARE, a local charity with various offices in towns throughout Northern Ireland — both charities well known for the dedication of their volunteer helpers.

The support we received from neighbours, friends and family was amazing; families came and enjoyed a fun day, the live music from local band ‘Last Man Standing’, sisters Eilis and Eva Rowan and John Carville added to the festive atmosphere.

Most importantly we raised £3,850 which is shared between the charities.

We now say ‘Thank You’ to all who worked selflessly all day, welcoming the guests, caring for the children and providing food and entertainment for our guests. We appreciate your kindness and good will.

Yours etc,

DENIS AND ETHNA CAHILL

AND FAMILY,

Teconnaught.
