Talks on future of St. Patrick Centre

11 April 2012

TALKS will get underway this week in a bid to resolve the dispute which has threatened the future of the St. Patrick Centre.

Officials from the centre at Down Council are expected to meet later this week to discuss the funding crisis which has enveloped the interpretative centre leaving it on the brink of closure.

Down Council has cut its grant by 30 per cent over the past two years and last week centre officials met with auditors to discuss winding up the company.

There has been considerable disquiet among Down councillors over the possible closure of the centre. The complex brings in 75,000 visitors a year and is the flagship centre for the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s St. Patrick’s signature programme.
