Students hear career advice at school fair

STUDENTS and staff at Shimna Integrated College in Newcastle have been taking part in National Careers Week.

The week included visits from Bring IT On and Sentinus, drama work on the theme of ambition, presentations on careers in languages and a focus in every class on the careers potential of the subject.

A-Level students attended Laganside Courts as part of the Living Law programme and took part in barrister advocacy training at Hillsborough Castle in preparation for a mock bar trial competition in the autumn.

The week culminated in a huge careers fair, which was attended by 110 guests from 54 companies and organisations, including universities, further education colleges and a wide range of employers and training organisations.

School principal Kevin Lambe said: “We are particularly pleased to welcome back old scholars such as Adam Morrison, now loving his Higher Level Apprenticeship with QuarryPlan, driving his drones all over Ireland while at the same time studying for his degree.”
