AN impressive £1,789 was raised when Struell Lodge in Downpatrick hosted a magical Winter Wonderland event for service users and their families to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones.

The money raised will go towards providing additional resources for  the residential care service providing support to adults with learning disabilities.

Music, games, entertainment, tombola prizes and a ‘penny for candy’ sweet stall entertained the families and service users in the outdoor event with Covid measures in place to ensure everyone’s safety.

Santa arrived on his sleigh and met children in his grotto with staff dressing up for the occasion.

A large donation of 60 raffle prizes wad received from the local community of Downpatrick, Castlewellan and Newcastle areas which included vouchers for local businesses, restaurants, cafes, bars, beauty salons and hairdressers.

Newry Mourne and DownCouncil donated £200 and supplied chairs, tables and gazebos.

A spokesperson for South Eastern Heath and Social Care Trust said: “Everyone at Struell Lodge would like to thank everyone who supported this event, it is very much appreciated.

“A huge thank you also goes to the staff team for their continued hard work in making this such a successful event for the service and service users. Also to the families for their continued support particularly throughout the Covid pandemic.”
