Sat Nav misery for drivers on Drumaness trips

INCREASING numbers of visitors getting “lost” in Drumaness has prompted calls for a new sign pinpointing the location of the Crawfordstown Road in the village.

Councillor Patsy Toman and local resident Pat Ward have called on Down Council to provide the new sign because delivery drivers and taxi operators based outside the district keep having to ask residents for directions.

A number of residents have signed a petition calling for the new road sign which was handed over to councillor Toman to forward to local authority officials.

The local politician said the absence of the Crawfordstown Road sign is prompting delivery drivers to stop and ask for directions when, more often than not, they are actually on the very road they are looking for.

Councillor Toman said he’s been informed there have been times when taxi drivers have knocked people’s doors during the early hours of the morning looking for the Crawfordstown Road.

“It’s my understanding that so-called SatNavs can direct delivery drivers and taxi operators into the centre of Drumaness, but the absence of a road sign indicating where the Crawfordstown Road is leads to confusion,” he added.

Mr. Ward said he has been contacted by a number of concerned residents and confirmed that people’s doors are being knocked at times during the early hours by taxi drivers looking for the Crawfordstown Road.

He added: “The simple way to avoid any further confusion is to have a new sign indicating where this road is. There isn’t one currently in place in the centre of the village and this is leading to confusion.”
