A SAINTFIELD student has been presented with a prestigious award at the Harper Adams University in Shropshire.

Jocelyn Orr, who is studying a BSc (Hons) Agriculture course at the university near Newport, was presented with the Victor Truesdale prize at the university’s annual Harper Ireland dinner in Telford last month.

The award is sponsored by Europe’s largest single site feed manufacturer John Thompson & Sons Ltd of Belfast in memory of Victor Truesdale, the sales director at the company who supported the foundation of Harper Adams in Ireland and was the first honorary member of the alumni association.

“I never anticipated I would become so involved in student life at Harper Adams but I couldn’t have made a better choice,” said Jocelyn.

The Saintfield student’s active involvement in life at Harper Adams including being a member of the Student Union and Harper Ireland, chairwoman of the RAG committee, member of the university’s first eleven hockey team, polo and shooting clubs.

Jocelyn is a former pupil of Saintfield High School and Lagan College and in her first year at Harper Adams was awarded the Alltech Ireland Scholarship which led to her receiving a placement with the animal health and nutrition company in her third year of studies.
