ROWALLANE councillor Maria McCarthy has welcomed work to address flooding concerns at the Main Street area in Saintfield.
The Roads Service recently cleaned a number of gullies at this part of the town, but others close to the roundabout at the top of Main Street proved more difficult to clear.
Councillor McCarthy had been contacted by a number of business owners and residents about persistent flooding at Main Street and neighbouring Downpatrick Road.
“Many of the gullies were cleaned at the beginning of last month which did help with flooding concerns. However, problems were encountered cleaning some gullies at the roundabout and outside two businesses in Main Street,” she explained.
“The Roads Service is now undertaking investigative work to determine the cause of the blockages and I’m told work to resolve the issue will be added to the programme of small scale drainage works in 2012.”
Councillor McCarthy said addressing the flooding issue will alleviate problems at Main Street and improve access to businesses in the town.
