MISS Vera Mullan, of 24 Ardmeen Green, Downpatrick, who died at Lecale Lodge Nursing Home, was a retired housing manager. She was 89.
Miss Mullan began her working career during the Second World War at the Ministry of Food office in Downpatrick where ration coupons were issued.
Educated at Assumption Grammar School, Ballynahinch, she then worked in the public housing sector in the Lisburn area. Over the years she witness many changes as different bodies, such as the urban and rural councils, the Northern Ireland Housing Trust and finally the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, took responsibility for public housing.
She became Housing Executive manager for the Downpatrick area and retired nearly 30 years ago. She enjoyed good health until recently and had a number of interests.
She was a member of Owenbeg Bowling Club and enjoyed needlework and crochetwork. She attended classes in how to make Carrickmacross lace and Fabergé eggs. However, her chief interest lay in her family which was the centre of her life.
Miss Mullan is survived by her sister, Mrs. Patricia Vaughan, brother-in-law Senan, nieces and nephews.
Requiem mass in St. Patrick’s Church on January 13 was followed by interment in the family plot at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Killough Road.
