Red Arrows will return for an Olympic fly past in Newcastle

THE Red Arrows will be making an appearance in the skies above Newcastle after all.

After the disappointment of the legendary display team being unable to take part in the Festival of Flight, the Red Arrows will perform a fly past on Friday afternoon.

The event will be part of a UK-wide flight being staged by the Red Arrows to mark the opening of the London Olympics.

The announcement has delighted Ann Moreland, Down Council’s Events Development Officer.

“The Red Arrows will be colouring the skies over Newcastle with their nine-plane battle formation and hopefully draw roars of approval from the crowds below on Friday, July 27 as part of the Olympic Ceremony,” she said

“All those disappointed by the Arrows not being able to display at our Festival of Flight will have an opportunity to see them, so, keep your eyes peeled at exactly 13.05pm as they approach from the north exiting over the Mournes.

“The Red Arrows were disappointed that they could not attend our Festival of Flight this year but by way of recognition they have chosen their flight path to exit over the Mournes.

“It is hoped that this appearance will go a little way to acknowledge their support in recent years when they performed in Newcastle,” said Ann.
