A PORTAFERRY brother and sister took part in a 100-mile challenge last month to help raise money for an organ transplant charity in memory of their brother.
Breandan Sweeney (30) and his sister, Grainne (27), raised a total of £2,605 and ten pence and they wish to thank everyone who supported them.
For 30 days the pair walked, ran and cycled in aid of Live Life Give Life.
Thirteen years ago their eldest brother, Paudraig, died after being involved in a road accident. Paudraig, who played hurling for Portaferry, was 21.
Mrs Sweeney and her husband, Martin, were already on the organ donor list but were surprised to learn that Paudraig’s name was also on the list.
She said: “We take great comfort to know that Paudraig has saved the lives of six other people and part of him still lives on.
“The main reason Breandan and Grainne completed this challenge was to help raise money and awareness of organ donation.”
She added: “Martin and I couldn’t be any more proud of their achievement and we are just blown away with the generosity of everyone who has donated.”
Live Life Give Life say that 6,077 people were waiting for a transplant in the UK last year.
