Police plea after local girl is approached

1 April 2012

A SUSPICIOUS approach towards a teenage girl in Newcastle is being investigated by police.

It is understood the 13 year-old girl was walking on Bryansford Avenue on the evening of Tuesday, December 6, when a man in a black car stopped and made an attempt to grab her.

A couple walking nearby shouted at the man who got into the car and drove off. A short time later the man returned and stopped beside the girl and told her to get into the car. She told him to leave her alone and he drove off.

The man is described as being in his late thirties, approximately six feet tall, with brown scruffy hair and a brown goatee beard. He was wearing a red hooded top and jeans.

Anyone who was on Bryansford Avenue between 7.30 pm and 8pm on that date and saw anything suspicious is asked to contact CID in Downpatrick on 0845 600 8000.

They are particularly keen to speak with the couple who shouted at the man during this incident.
