Opening of new burial plots at cemetery

30 October 2019

A NEW section at Lough Inch Municipal Cemetery on Ballynahinch was officially opened on Friday.

The completion of the second phase of the development provides a further 237 burial plots.

Work began in May last year and cost in the region of £148,000.

Newry, Mourne and Down Council chairman Charlie Casey, who officially opened the new section, said afterwards: “I am pleased to be here to open this new area within the cemetery.

“The completion of this phase has vastly improved the way the cemetery looks and will provide the people of this district with a more attractive place to come and remember their loved ones.

“I particularly want to thank all those who have visited the cemetery during the development works for their patience and co-operation. I am sure they would agree that the improvements made have been worth it.

Cllr Casey paid tribute to the consulting engineers, White Young Green, and Whitemountain, the contractors who delivered the scheme.

He added: “It is to their credit that the development was completed to a high standard of workmanship and quality of finish.”
