The sudden and tragic death of Terry Fitzsimons, from Ballykinlar, has left a massive whole in the hearts of many people.
Terry died on July 24 at the young age of 66. He was a quiet, friendly gent who formed friendships with many throughout his life.
Terry was born on February 8, 1950, the eldest child of Hugh and Josephine Fitzsimons. Terry was always a massive fan of shooting. In 2004, after the death of his beloved wife Marie, he developed a greater passion for the sport and was a much loved member of various shooting clubs.
He spent every Wednesday evening at Eagle Hill Pistol Club, as well as spending every Saturday at Church View Shooting Club and Sunday mornings in Lough Money with Killough Shooting Club.
He loved spending every evening sitting like a lord, enjoying the company of his dear grandchildren and, of course, showing his love for them by entertaining them as much as he could.
Terry was a creature of habit. He spent each Sunday morning in Sean’s shop with the boys, where they put the entire world to rights.
He then moved on to the Quoile where he visited his lifelong friends, gaining such satisfaction in being a general torture by turning off every single air-freshener in the house. Terry had a great sense of humour, which was was clear to all who were close to him.
The large crowd of people who attended Terry’s funeral mass in St Patrick’s and St Joseph’s Church, Ballykinlar, on July 27 showed just how well liked he truly was. The funeral was conducted by the Very Rev Denis McKinlay.
Terry’s close family and friends are still deeply shocked and saddened by the news they received that Sunday afternoon, but gain great comfort in the memories they have made with him during his time, memories that will be cherished in their hearts forever.
He will be sorely missed by his sorrowing children, grandchildren and entire family circle.
