MR Donal Barry Rice, of Magheralone Road, Ballynahinch, succumbed to oesophageal cancer surrounded by his family at his home on March 23. He was 47.
Donal, who was known as DB, joined the family business, RK Trucks Centre Ltd, Carryduff, on leaving school. He started as an apprentice mechanic and worked his way up the ranks to a managerial position.
He had a love for restoring old tractors, which began with its late grandfather’s original Ferguson. It became an abiding hobby until he was forced to stop due to his illness. Donal also enjoyed following Formula One motor racing and the Down Gaelic football team.
Donal was always ready to help his family and friends with anything they needed, including electrical and building projects. He was a loving father, husband and friend to all who knew him and will be sorely missed.
Donal is survived by his wife, Patricia, daughter Natasha and her partner Mel, parents Donal and Margaret, Iris, sisters Nicola and Claire, brothers-in-law Brian and Paul, nephews Ben, Kristopher and Kian, nice Caitlin, aunts Una and Eibhlin, and the extended family circle.
The Rice family appreciate the kindness shown to them at this difficult time and are overwhelmed by people’s thoughtfulness.
