Michelin select Dundrum’s Alex as top 10 chef

2 September 2020

GREAT British Menu chef Alex Greene has been ranked by the Michelin Guide in the top 10 chefs to follow on Instagram.

The inclusion of the culinary star from Dundrum ranks him alongside leading UK chefs such as Antrim native Claire Smyth, Angela Hartnett and Jason Atherton — all of whom have either made their name on the Great British Menu competition as winners or latterly as judges.

The Michelin Guide — a recognised supporter of fine dining — noted that all top 10 chefs listed “were at the top of their game” in its recommendation.

It also noted that while, Greene, a Michelin star chef at Michael Deane’s Eipic restaurant in Belfast, did not post often but when he did, “you are almost guaranteed to salivate.”

The 30 year-old posted action shots

from this year’s Great British Menu, where he won the starter and dessert courses for the final banquet shown on BBC One in May.

He also posts pictures of foraged ingredients, as well as simple seasonal dishes and caught Michelin’s attention for the use of also a good hashtag.

Alex told the Recorder that he was “humbled” to have been listed alongside some of the biggest chef stars around.

“It’s pretty special to be included as now I know Michelin has been keeping an eye on me,” he said.

“I had noticed that they had liked and reposted some of my posts but I had no idea that this was coming.”

While the Covid-19 lockdown hampered some of the follow-up promotional activities that Alex may have enjoyed as a Great British Menu winner, he said that Eipic restaurant has bounced back to success with business up by 75% on last year.

“Bookings are also up and there’s not many left up until Christmas so things are looking very good,” he added.
