Michael in gold surge

13 June 2018

NEWCASTLE AC juniors ended the season on a high with 10 year-old Michael Uhomoibhi bringing home gold in the U-13 shot putt event after throwing the metal ball more than 5m during his first event at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast.

Michael also tried out the U-13 boys’ 75m hurdles when he, along with three other young athletes from Newcastle Athletics, including his sister Anna, participated in a range of events at the third meeting of the Firmus Fab Five series.

Callum Cope and Alex Johnston joined the Uhomoibhi siblings at the event for an enjoyable evening in the sun. Well done to all with Anna and Alex taking part in the U-15 girls’ 75m hurdles and U-15 girls long jump. Anna also tried out the U-15 girls’ shot putt and Callum, double gold medallist from the first meeting, took part in the U-11 boys’ 100m.

The final two meets of the Firmus Fab Five series which caters for everyone aged 8 to 80+ take place on August 9 and 31. Further information can be obtained from the Athletics NI website at https://athleticsni.org/Fixtures/Firmus-Series.
