Masterful Julie strikes gold in Barcelona

SAINTFIELD Hockey Club’s Julie Shaw struck gold in Barcelona at the weekend with the Irish Masters over 50 side.

She travelled with the Ireland team to take part in the Masters World Cup and played in games against Argentina, Chile and the USA.

After winning all their games they then faced USA again in the quarter-finals, winning narrowly 2-1.

The semi-final saw them face Scotland, defeating them 2-0 and in the final they saw off Australia, one of the toughest teams in the competition.

Ireland played a more defensive game to keep hold of their World Cup dream. Coming away in the end with a 1-0 nil victory to become the new world champions.
