Mark and Cahal take over at Downpatrick

12 June 2019

DOWNPATRICK FC have appointed Mark Holland and Cahal Hynds as their new management team.

The highly experienced duo take over with immediate effect and replace Tony McShane and Paul Moore at the helm.

Downpatrick will be playing their games in Division 1A of the Amateur League next season following their recent relegation from the top flight, but Holland believes that there is enough talent at the club to hold their own in an extremely tough division.

“Our aim will be to stabilise the club in 1A and then push on from there. We are taking over an extremely young squad, but we have the utmost faith in their ability,” he said.

“We are going to bring some old faces back to the club and beef the squad up with experience and guile. We have spoken to quite a few former players and also hope to bring in a few old hands with Irish League experience.”

Holland, who played in the Irish League for Cliftonville and Lisburn Distillery, and Hynds were together as a managerial partnership at Kilmore Rec several years ago.

They came up through the ranks together at Killyleagh YC where they were an integral part of Dee Heron’s all-conquering outfit in the 1990s.

Holland said: “It has always been my intention, after my playing days were over, to come back and manage my home town team and Cahal and I will most definitely give it our best shot.”
