SINGER songwriter Lucy Bell from Downpatrick is hoping to win a £1,000 cash prize in the live final of the Translink Metro Sessions music competition this Saturday.
The 19 year-old university student will be competing against four other artists at Belfast City Hall in a free open-air gig from 2-5pm.
She will also have the chance to win a recording studio package, airtime from Media Partner Q Radio and industry mentoring in the new competition organised in partnership with the Oh Yeah Music Centre, Belfast.
The other artists include Gin Palace, The John Andrews Band, Modern Rome and The Rising. The winner will be decided by a 48-hour online public vote.
The former Assumption Grammar School pupil has just released a second track from her first EP, Valentine.
The single Fools follows up from the track, Lost On The Line, while she plans on releasing a second EP if she is lucky enough to win on Saturday.
Lucy told the Recorder: “I’m studying Film Studies as a second year student at the University of Gloucestershire but of course I would love a full-time job in music.
“It would be a dream to be able to release my first album and I know I could do a lot with the £1,000 cash prize.”
She describes her style as “pop with a country feel”.
Lucy has already proved her songwriting talent by winning the Panarts Young Songwriter of The Year as part of the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival last year.
The decision is also down to the public vote so to show your support for Lucy Bell and details on how to vote, go to www.soundofbelfast.com/metrosessions.
