Lee triumphs at President’s Day

19 September 2018

SATURDAY saw Crossgar Golf Club host their last ‘major’ of the season in the form of Ian Patterson’s President’s Day.

Scoring was high with a host of players posting 38 points before the in-form Lee Hanna blitzed his way to a fantastic 42 points which proved too much for the chasing pack.

Bill Ross was the nearest challenger with a very respectable 40 points and Tony Brennan came in late with 39 points to snatch third place.

The gross prize went again to low handicapper David Watson with young Adam Withers winning the juvenile award. Nearest the pin was won by Dessie Hanvey and David Watson added the longest drive to his gross prize.

The ladies’ competition also saw very high scoring with Rosie Boulter finding herself extremely unlucky to lose out on the winner’s prize on count-back as Liz Murray claimed her first ‘major’ of the season with an outstanding 41 points.

Anne McCart won the back with 20 points whilst Barbara Clarke claimed the front nine with 21. Longest drive went to young Maeve Fay and nearest the pin to Patricia Magee.

The president, having presented the prizes, thanked the groundsmen for the great work they have done on the course and also the ladies for providing the refreshments. He felt it was another very successful day.
