FOUR swimmers from Lecale ASC took part in the Swim Ulster Development meet in Larne on Sunday.

It was a long day of competition involving hundreds of swimmers from throughout Ulster. Lecale’s Orlaith Devlin, Amy Godfrey, Laura Molloy and Daniel Molloy took part in events including 400m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, 200m individual medley, 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley.

All swam well and achieved PBs in their events. Ten year-old Laura Molloy finished 18th in 50m breaststroke and 20th in the 50m freestyle in a large field of 10-11 year-olds.

Orlaith Devlin swam 6:58.70 in the 400m freestyle, finishing a good half a length ahead of all others in her heat and eighth place overall. Orlaith went on to finish 7th in the 200m IM.

Amy Godfrey achieved an A grade time of 1:30.25 in the 100m backstroke and later 1:34.48 in the 100m IM. She finished fourth in both events, missing out on medals by just a fraction of a second.

Daniel Molloy finished 6th in the 50m breaststroke, 14th in the 400m freestyle (6:28.48) and 19th in the 100m backstroke (1:39.15). Daniel kept the best for last though and in the final heat of the 50m free he swam 35.50 to win a well-earned silver medal.

Lecale’s next meet is at home against former PTL Division 1 club Lurgan on Saturday, December 10.
