NEWCASTLE teenager Kyra Quinn has braved the shave — and is loving the results.
Supported by family and friends at Hugh McCann’s bar in Newcastle, the 14 year-old had her long brunette hair shorn off to a buzz cut last Saturday night to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Kyra, who is a student from Blackwater Integrated College in Downpatrick, has raised £740 so far, with £470 raised on the night and £270 in donations to her fundraising page.
Kyra was moved to take part in the charity effort as a tribute and a thank you for the care received by her grandfather passed away from cancer several years ago.
Her mother, Tammy, said Kyra, who used to live in Downpatrick, has fully embraced her new look.
“Kyra loves her hair off now. She thinks it suits her and she might keep it like this from now on,” she said.
“When she went to school on Monday, all her friends said that they couldn’t believe that she went through with it and said how proud they were of her.
“People generally have been saying that she suits her hair short and I agree as she has such a lovely small face that a pixie cut looks well on her.”
Kyra’s mum thanked well-wishers and patrons and staff of the bar for supporting her daughter.
