Killyleagh World War One art exhibition

Killyleagh World War One art exhibition

22 August 2018

AN exhibition of war art opens in Killyleagh later this week.

Killyleagh Library is the setting for the exhibition of the work of local artists on the theme of the Great War. It opens on Friday and runs during normal library openings times.

The artists exhibiting include Leo Casement, Wendy Cromie and Roy Rodgers.

It is part of a series of events, supported by the European Union’s Peace 4 Programme, managed by the Special EU programmes body and organised by the Killyleagh Remembers the Great War group to mark the centenary year of peace.

Last week Mrs Carol Walker, Director of the Somme Museum, gave a talk at the library on the role of women in the war and the 100th anniversary of them getting the vote as part of the programme.

Mrs Walker was welcomed to the library by Mrs Ann Fee, of Killyleagh Library.

The programme of events will climax in the carrying of a lantern of peace from Shrigley to Killyleagh by local community heroes and the lighting of a beacon in Killyleagh on the night of Remembrance Sunday.

Souvenir copies of the war programme are available from the library.
