Karen is a golden girl

A KILLYLEAGH grandmother has just returned home from the World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Sweden with a haul of medals.

The 51 year-old legal secretary won gold in the deadlift where she raised 155kg. She also won silver medals in the squat where she lifted 122.5kg, a new European record, and benched 57.5kg to secure overall second place in a high quality field.

Karen, who trains at Conor Gelston’s gym in Annacloy, where she is coached by Aaron Kelly, qualified for the World Championships after outstanding performances at the British Masters last October.

She was also won a bronze medal at the European Championships in May 2018 and also

represented Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in South Africa the previous month.
