Jessica points the way for Down Ladies

DOWN Senior Ladies kept their winning streak going when they accounted for a previously unbeaten Roscommon at Burren on Sunday to sit proudly at the top of Division 3 with Kildare, who are also unbeaten after four games.

Yet again, wind was a factor, favouring Roscommon in the first half. After a cagey opening quarter, which saw the teams level at two points each, Down began to find their rhythm and a quickfire 1-2 from Eimear Fitzpatrick, gave the home side a firm grip on proceedings, one they never gave up. Two additional points saw the home side go in with a lead of 1-6 to 0-3 at half-time.

Down simply picked up where they left off on the resumption, overpowering their opponents all over the pitch and gradually pulling away from a fading Roscommon side.

Defensively, Down reigned supreme with the visitors only registering two points from play in total. Down stormed forward, with their midfield and forward line constantly keeping the scoreboard

ticking with some superb attacking play.

The win leaves Down top, with four wins from four, ahead of an also unbeaten Kildare side, on points difference.

Next up is a home fixture against Wicklow on March 8.

Down scorers: Jessica Foy (1-3), Eimear Fitzpatrick (1-2), Sarah Dougherty (1-2), Natasha Ferris (0-2), Lauren Cunningham (0-2), Anna McKee (0-1), Kim White (0-1).
