SPREADING a little Christmas cheer and letting people know they are not alone is the aim of the Mid-Down CAP team this Christmas.
CAP’s Mid-Down debt help team is organising Christmas gift bags and hampers for the people they’re helping and are also taking them out for a cup of coffee as a special Christmas treat to let them know that they are not alone.
Centre manager Norman Gibson said: “This is all part of the team’s ministry of ongoing help and support to families and individuals who are struggling with debt or are in some other form of financial difficulty.
“CAP stands for Christians Against Poverty and is a UK-based charity committed to helping people by providing them with free debt help and counselling, money management, job and life skills training and support.
“The amazing thing about CAP is, through our befriender system, we can offer a very personal touch and walk with the people we are helping for as long as it takes to become debt free.”
The Mid-Down CAP team operates through volunteers from a cross section of local churches, and they are committed to helping people regardless of their age, gender, marital status, disability, race, religion, sexual orientation etc.
Mid-Down CAP is based at Christ Church Kilmore, which also operates a community food bank.
Norman continued: “Everyone knows that these are tough times. Many people are struggling on low incomes and with energy and food prices ever on the rise the situation can and will only get more difficult for many people.
“With our Christmas coffee treat, gifts and hampers, all we want to do is spread a little bit of Christmas cheer to people who are struggling and to let them know that they are not alone.”
