PATRICK Kielty showed his brain is as fast as his wit when he won £50,000 for Newcastle’s Daisy Lodge on a celebrity version of The Chase.

The comedian and presenter from Dundrum took part in the Christmas Eve edition of the ITV game show and his chosen charity was the Cancer Fund for Children, which runs the Daisy Lodge respite facility.

He and fellow team-mates, presenter Jenni Falconer, DJ Judge Jules and actor Lesley Joseph, won a combined total of £200,000 for their chosen good causes.

The 50 year-old got off to a good start by answering six questions correctly in the pot building round and turned down a £6,000 offer to get a step closer to a high offer of £179,000.

On his head-to-head with chaser Anne Hegarty, Patrick got one question wrong but still managed to make the final.

In the final chase, Anne got two questions wrong and gave Patrick the chance to answer two pushback questions, one of which was about Belfast’s Black Mountain.

The Cancer Fund for Children praised Patrick’s performance on the show and thanked him for supporting it.

It said on social media: “Wow what an incredible performance by all the celebrities on tonight’s #TheChase Christmas Special. Massive THANK YOU to @PatricKieltyfor winning us a surprise Christmas present of £50K to support children and young people living with cancer.”

Patrick, who was back home in Dundrum over the holiday period with his family, paid his own tribute to the charity.,

He replied on Twitter: “Delighted I could surprise you guys tonight. To everyone at @CancerFundChild – THANK YOU ! So glad to be back in Co Down for Christmas this year. And SO proud of what you do for everyone here at home.”

Patrick’s efforts for the highly regarded charity was roundly praised on social media with one man called him a “top man” and another calling him “the star of the Couny Down”.
