A LOCAL schoolboy has raised over £2,500 for a charity by walking to school.
Ten year-old Fionn McNulty walked from his home at Raholp to St Joseph’s Primary School at Ballycruttle in aid of Action MS.
Fionn, who was accompanied by his grandfather, James Murphy, a former principal of the school, managed to raise £2,525.
A further £135 was raised by Fionn’s 11 year-old, Oran Byrne Convery, who also took part in the walk, while brother and sister Thomas (7) and Evie (8) Porter, whose mum Imelda, is the current principal of St Joseph’s raised £110 by doing laps of the school.
Last week the children presented a cheque for the grand sum of £2,770 to Action MS finance manager Rachel McCoubrey.
Rachel said afterwards: “Action MS would like to thank Fionn, Oran, Evie and Thomas for going the extra mile for Action MS, completing their Walk for MS to raise vital funds to support our services for those living with multiple sclerosis.
“This is especially appreciated during these unprecedented times when much of our fundraising has had to be put on hold due to corona virus.
“We would also like to thank Mr Murphy and Mrs Porter, as well as all the teachers and staff of the school, for their generous support.”
Thanks were also to the McNulty family in Downpatrick and Derry, the Murphy family and friends in Downpatrick, Saul and Preston in England, Medicare Downpatrick
and its head office in Belfast, the staff of Bank of Ireland in Downpatrick, the Avenue Bar in Downpatrick and all those individuals who contributed to Fionn’s fabulous total along the way.
